Сheck your egos at the door

In 1984 I was in New York when I got a call from singer Lionel "Skeet" Richie and promoter Ken Kragen, who told me Harry Belafonte felt we should do something about hundreds of thousands of people in Ethiopia who were starving to death as a result of a famine and a civil war there. Band Aid had been a big success in Europe as a model. I've known Harry since the early fifties as a jazz singer, when he and Sidney Poitier hung out in Birdland and ran a joint called Ribs in the Rough (barbecue and fried chicken) up in Harlem. I agreed to help.
