Эдвин Мэй - это очень интересная личность на просторах парапсихологии. Он известен своим научно-материалистическим подходом к трактованию "паранормальных" явлений. Он также известен своими связями с российскими (в особенности из военной разведки) исследователями парапсихологами. Во встречах с Мишлавом эта тема также затрагивается.

В последней встрече цикла Мэй прямо говорит Мишлаву, что данных полным-полно, максимально точно задукоментированных с жесткими условиями экспериментов и т.д... Нет смысла продолжать их накапливать. Оспаривать их факт - наивно и глупо. Сейчас лишь актуален вопрос корректной интерпретации. С этой целью, например, нейро-науки могут прийти на помощь.

Что же делать и куда двигаться? Вопрос упирается в финансирование... Но не только. Финансирование можно вполне обеспечить как только возникнут четкие теории и идеи, которые можно будет прорабатывать. А сейчас есть лишь намеки и задатки, ничего конкретного да и ученый народ "шухерится" лезть в парапсихологические исследования, потому что это чревато пятном на карьере. И здесь возникает парадокс, что заниматься подобными исследованиями с научным подходом можно тем людям, кто уже создал себе подобие карьеры в той или иной научной сфере, чтобы обезопасить себя от проблем.

"What Is Time?

This simple question has a very complex answer and even in physics, it is not well understood. Until Einstein, everyone knew what time was— each tick of a clock measured it. Then Einstein gummed up the works by showing that when a time interval is multiplied by the speed of light—a constant, then time is basically the same as distance. This added a fourth dimension to the familiar three (length/width, height/breadth, and depth) and is called Minkowski space. In special relativity, the time between ticks on a clock depends on how fast the clock is moving relative to you. The special relativity rule of thumb is this: the clock at rest with an observer always displays the longest "time between clicks" and the shortest length.

Let's illustrate with a cosmic ray example. When high-energy particles strike the top of the atmosphere, among lots of other things, they produce particles call muons, which in the laboratory decay in 2.2 microseconds. There is no sharp boundary between the atmosphere and outer space; however, an accepted boundary, albeit roughly speaking, is the Karman line, at 100 kilometers.

So, here is the problem: traveling at the speed of light (300,000 kilometers per second), it would take 100/300,000 = 333 microseconds—or over 150 times longer then a muon lives (to an observer in the same time frame as the muon)—to make it through the atmosphere. So, there should be no muons seen on the ground. But they are seen on the ground. The answer to this apparent dilemma comes to us from special relativity by invoking the rule of thumb above. Suppose you could ride along on the muon and know that your "steed" lives for only 2.2 microseconds on your clock. But because of the rule of thumb, you measure the atmosphere to be much thinner at 14 kilometers (i.e., by applying the formula for what is called the Lorentz contraction and assuming the speed of the muon as 0.999999 the speed of light). Thus, traveling at basically the speed of light would take just a bit less than half a microsecond—plenty of "time" to make it through the thinner atmosphere. Special relativity has been confirmed experimentally not only with the above examples but countless others since Special Relativity was published by Einstein in 1905.

The short answer to what exactly is time is that we have very little clue at this juncture."
